I usually use the discovery scanner to do this then it should point you through the steps. If you have to scan a hub terminal then you have to get real close to the target. Okay so used my discovery scanner, and it says I have already found these planters bodies.

WebJan 6, 2015 · Turn all non-essential systems off, and wait for the ship to cool down (or use a heat sink). Head for the station, and go to FA-off. Glide towards it with zero throttle. Ask permission to dock at 7.5k. Once at 5k or so, go to silent running. If despite all this somebody starts to scan you, use a heat sink.
