Byrd heads are like a half way step. I can get a byrd head for my 24" Yates American planer. It is 3500 bucks. It would take me 3 days at least to swap it on my direct drive machine. I won't mention the cost of cutter head bearings either. I can buy 30 sets of knives for that price.
